We at DCCJ have received following information regarding the Danish Interaction Design Educational Organization, CIID (Copenhagen Institute of Interaction Design), holding its Winter School Workshops and Lightning Talks in Japan for the first time.
Denmark is one of the world's most digitalized countries, exemplified through its cashless systems and e-government, and is always listed in the top ranks of the happiest countries in the world. The digitalization strategy is also implemented into education and social welfare. One of the Danish characteristics is that it incorporates not only conventional object design but also a human centric and social system design in a co-creation style.
In Japan, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) and the Patent Office issued a report on design management in May 2018, pointing out the importance of incorporating design into a management perspective in order to increase industrial competitiveness.
At Business Insider, CIID is listed as one of the top 20 design and innovation schools in the world. As a top school which promotes design innovation, they provide companies and policy makers with a platform with the design tools, skills, and new perspectives which are needed to be innovate and a drive engine across the industry.
Every year, people from all over the world gather at the CIID Summer School in Copenhagen to participate in a five-day workshop to learn design thinking and method. Global companies, such as Google, Facebook, Microsoft, IBM, Spotify and UN organizations participate in CIID schools, and some also have a business alliance with CIID to solve social issues and difficult challenges to achieve by learning and incorporating methods of design thinking for innovation from the design domain. Something also advocated by CIID.
According to the World Economic Forum, many of us need to build up competencies in problem-solving skills such as critical thinking, creativity and cognitive flexibility which are needed in the 2020s. Innovation is considered one of the key drivers of today's industry and can increase competitiveness, efficiency and long-term growth. At the same time, it requires skills, resources and strategies by incorporating design techniques into the corporate process and corporate value.
All sessions at the Winter School will follow the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) framework.
