Due to the worldwide Corona outbreak, it has been decided to cancel Voyage #107 and Training Ship DANMARK’s participation in the Olympics in Tokyo 2020.
DCCJ has received the following message from MARTEC CEO Pia Ankerstjerne which reads as follows:
"The decision is based on precautionary principles due the corona spread and due to the unpredictability of the preventive measures put in to force by different countries. The decision is that Training Ship DANMARK cannot continue as originally planned toward the Caribbean Island, via Gran Canarias. It is not considered realistic to find alternate destinations.
The trainees on board Voyage #107, who are in the process of receiving their basic
maritime training to become certified ordinary seaman, are onboard Training Ship extraordinarily to sail the ship to the Caribbean’s due to the following Olympic Voyage. The intention was to sail the ship to the Caribbean, after which the next team of trainees (Voyage #108) would sail the ship to Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. In the current situation, the logistics is no longer considered realistic and participation in Tokyo 2020 Olympics no longer possible."
