Lundbeck Japan K.K. was inaugurated in 2001. In 2011, our partner, Mochida Pharmaceutical Co. Ltd., obtained marketing authorisation for escitalopram (Lexapro®; エスシタロプラム) as the first product invented by Lundbeck introduced to the Japanese market. We are proud that Lexapro® which has been made available to more than 300 mill. patients worldwide, now is available also for Japanese living with depression.

In addition to our strong local collaboration with Mochida Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. in Japan, on a global scale Lundbeck has entered into excellent partnerships with major Japanese pharmaceutical companies such as Takeda Pharmaceutical Company Ltd., Otsuka Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. and Kyowa Hakko Kirin Co., Ltd. Currently we are experiencing a growing business in Japan and we expect to grow it further in the future.

To develop drugs for brain diseases, that is psychiatry and neurology, is probably one the most complex and challenging areas to operate in. Therefore, as a company, we aim to attract the sharpest minds in Japan to join forces with us in developing and commercializing the ‘treatments of tomorrow’.
