Yesterday, on December 9th 2019, Scandinavian Airlines System (SAS) announced a new and direct route to Tokyo Haneda International Airport from Copenhagen Kastrup. The new route will give travelers better access to downtown Tokyo, and increase connectivity to 30 domestic destinations in Japan through fellow Star Alliance Member, All Nippon Airways (ANA).
By relying on SAS’ new Airbus A350 aircraft, emissions will also be reduced by 30 percent when compared to earlier generations of similar long-haul aircrafts.
The route will open in the summer season of 2020, just in time for the Olympic and Paralympic Games, and is particularly well timed as SAS will function as the principal airline partner for the three national Scandinavian Olympic and Paralympic Organizing Committees during the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.
Additionally, as the route between Copenhagen and Haneda comes to fruition, SAS will discontinue the service between Copenhagen and Narita, but more capacity between Japan and Scandinavia will be added in spring 2020 when All Nippon Airways opens a new route between Haneda and Stockholm.
