On Friday, November 8th 2019, there was plenty of laughter, Christmas spirit and tasty Danish "julebryg" (Christmas beer) to be found at the 15th floor-located Cafe Legato in Shibuya, where this year's popular DCCJ's annual Danish Christmas Beer Event took place. As the biggest social event for Danish companies in Japan, we saw over 200 participants, including Danish, Nordic and Japanese companies, beer enthusiasts and H.E. Ambassador Peter Taksøe-Jensen join us to enjoy the first Christmas beer of the season.
The event began with an enthusiastic speech by DCCJ Executive Director, host and event organizer Leon Esben Ota, soon followed by the first serving of beer and the crowd shouting in a loud voice "skål" or "kampai" (cheers). With a beer in hand and a Christmas hat on their head, everyone was quickly feeling the holiday spirit while mingling with old friends and making new ones in the dimly lit, atmospheric event room. Apart from Danish beer, the event offered plenty of delicious buffet food, desserts and Danish Christmas cookies from the Tokyo-based Danish bakery Jensen Bakery.
A little later in the evening, HE Ambassador Peter Taksøe-Jensen honored us with a brief speech, before the countdown started for the distribution of the Danish Christmas beer. When the clock finally struck 19:30, many excited participants began exchanging their beer tickets for the first Christmas beer of the year.
Nearing the end of the event the room suddenly got filled with excitement as it was time to play the lucky raffle game with sponsored gifts by Danish companies. One by one, our event sponsors from SAS Cargo, Coloplast K.K., BBC Chartering Japan Ltd., Novo Nordisk Pharma Ltd. and our DCCJ Board Member Representative helped to draw out a few lucky people from our over 200 participants to receive an early Christmas present. As you can probably tell by the pictures below, the winners were far from disappointed.
The evening ended with dessert, lots of social mingling and an extended drink order time by Cafe Legato's bar staff, due to everyone having such a great time.
