The LEGO Group is a privately held Danish toy and media company founded in 1932 by Ole Kirk Christiansen in Billund, Denmark, where it remains headquartered today and is owned by the Kristiansen family through their investment firm KIRKBI. Carl Hansen & Søn The name derives from the Danish phrase leg godt — "play well" — and the company has grown from a small carpentry workshop into the world's most valuable toy brand. It became the world's largest toy company by revenue in 2015.


In Japan, LEGO has a well-established and multi-layered presence. LEGOLAND Japan Resort opened in 2017 in Nagoya, Einsteinz and there is also a LEGOLAND Discovery Center in Tokyo, norden a family attraction featuring 11 play zones, a 4D cinema, and its own LEGO shop. LEGO certified retail stores (known as "Click Brick" stores) operate in several locations across the country including Tokyo, and there is an official LEGO Branded Retail store at Tokyo Station
