About The Event

*Unfortunately, due to COVID-19 and the postponing of the Olympic Games, the DR Danish National Girls’ Choir Concert the 31th of July at 18:30 will be cancelled.*

During the Olympic Games in Tokyo 2020 the DR Danish National Girls’ Choir (in danish: DR Pigekoret) and its Chief Conductor, Mr. Phillip Faber, will act as representaives of Denmark. The choir will be singing in various venues in Tokyo, such as the Training Ship DANMARK and the Danish Pavilion in Hibiya Park, as well as performing at several other official Danish events. One such event is a concert held at the Suntory Blue Rose Hall in Akasaka, Tokyo, in collaboration with the DCCJ.

The DR Danish National Girls’ Choir is part of the Danish Broadcasting Corporation (DR), and has existed since 1938. Today the choir is considered a very strong musical brand in Denmark and a powerful window to Danish Culture. Based in the spectacular hall of DR Koncerthuset in Copenhagen, they have been a familiar presence in the everyday lives of most, if not all, Danes. With over 50 live concerts a year - in and outside of Denmark - the choir is also used to perform in front of major audiences, and has even been praised for their sound by the likes of acclaimed British choral composer and conductor Bob Chilcott.

The DR Danish National Girls’ Choir has its roots in the traditional Danish song book, but has in recent years worked on developing the treasure of tradition and song to modern audiences. The choir represents the pure and powerful Nordic Sound that takes the listener back in time and sketches the history of a country, which has made it a unique representative of the Nordic choral tradition. On top of this the choir’s ability to combine a unique professionalism, a modern sound, immediate and infectious musical joy and a sense of visual expression invites both Danes and other nationalities into the living Danish culture. All together this has helped make the choir an invaluable ambassador for Denmark internationally and one of the best girls’ choirs in the world.

Do you want to experience a world renowned choir with roots in Danish and Nordic traditions, yet with an eye for musical renewal, personal interpretation and innovative musical collaborations? Then you should consider attending the DR Danish National Girls’ Choir Concert held at the Suntory Blue Rose Hall in Akasaka, Tokyo.
